Ex-policeman beaten up, killed; Allahabad HC seeks report
LUCKNOW: THE 68YEAROLD WAS MERCILESSLY BEATEN UP WITH IRON RODS AND PIPES BY A CRIMINAL AND TWO OF HIS ACCOMPLICES
Taking a grim view of the daylight killing of a retired police sub-inspector, the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday sought a response from the Uttar Pradesh police on the crime and asked what action had been taken so far. The court also told the police to report to it by Wednesday why no arrest had been made despite evidence in the form of closed circuit television (CCTV) footage.
Abdul Samad, the 68-year-old retired officer, was on Monday killed by a criminal of Allahabad in the Teliyarganj Silakhana area over a property dispute. In the video footage, the policeman can be seen being mercilessly beaten up with iron rods and pipes by Junaid, a criminal, and two of his accomplices.
The criminal overpowered the retired policeman behind the women’s polytechnic and attacked him, apparently angry over a property dispute in which he had lodged a case against Junaid.
Police have lodged a case of murder against Junaid and 10 others. The policeman was admitted to a medical facility on Monday evening with multiple fractures and concussions. He died later that night.
While many people were seen in the CCTV footage passing by, no one tried to stop the attackers.
Superintendent of police Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said a manhunt had been launched to arrest the assailants and said the guilty would not be spared.
