Wozniacki and Kerber off to flying start at Wuhan Open
World No 2 Caroline Wozniacki and Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber eased through their opening matches at the Wuhan Open in China on Tuesday.
Australian Open champion Wozniacki was barely troubled by the 61st-ranked Swede Rebecca Peterson, winning 6-4, 6-1 to set up a third-round clash with Olympic champion Monica Puig, who romped past Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-2, 6-2.
“It’s great to get a good start, obviously. Every match counts,” Wozniacki said. “I’m just trying to keep my head down and keep focused and try to win as much as I can to get that (WTA Finals) spot.”
WINNING STARTS
Indian men and women’s teams made winning starts to their campaign in the 43rd Chess Olympiad here on Tuesday. The women’s team blanked New Zealand 4-0 with only Tania Sachdev facing some real troubles while the trio of Koneru Humpy, Eesha Karavade and Padmini Rout recorded easy victories.
On a day when Viswanathan Anand was rested, Krishnan Sasikiran dropped a half point but that was only after P Harikrishna, Vidit Gujrathi and B Adhiban had secured victories on the top three boards to ensure a win for the team. The Indian teams got two match points following the victory.

Polo aficionados in the country will get to see the finest horsemanship when an All-Stars Argentinian team will play against the All-Stars Indian team in a three-match, 22-goal handicap tournament slated in December-January.
La Pegasus Polo, India’s upcoming polo establishment, on Tuesday entered into a partnership with Asociación Argentina de Polo (AAP) to host the series, which will start in Jodhpur and conclude in Delhi/NCR.
The La Pegasus team will comprise of leading Indian players like Dhruvpal Godara, Syed Shamsheer Ali, Simran Singh Shergill and Ravi Rathore, while the Argentine team will have a +10 goal player in the lineup. The AAP team will be captained by Eduardo Novillo Astrada, the president of the organisation.
