Rajawat had later denied making those remarks while saying that the conversation he was having was being held “off the record”, parts of which were “distorted”.

As the state prepares for polls, Rajawat, too, has begun to list out the “development works” he has done in this constituency. “I am MLA from Ladpura for last 15 years during which comprehen- sive development has been carried out with no major development work pending,” he claimed.

Congress‘s Naimuddin says several villages do not have roads and also face the severe problem of groundwater being contaminated with fluoride.

“Drinking water pipeline laying project for Kaithoon town was sanctioned by the Congress government but the BJP put the project in cold storage,” he alleged, and named Prem Nagar and the industrial area of Kota City as places facing drinking water problems.

“If the Congress is voted to power, we ill raise the height of

Alnia Dam to ensure irrigation facilitiesto47morevillages,” he said.

Rajawat says that the drinking water problems in his constituency “have been resolved” throught he money received under the Centre’s AMRUT scheme, launched in 2015 under which 28 cities and one town across Rajasthan were selected by the state government.

Caste-wise, Ladpura constituency is largely Gujjar dominated. According to an estimate, there are around 12,000 Gujjars with shared population of Muslim, SC/ST, Rajput and Dhakar community voters.
