Azhar, Asad suffer ‘brain fade’ in bizarre run out

In one of the weirdest dismissals, which is also being called Pakistan’s ‘brain fade’ moment on social media, top order batsman Azhar Ali was run out in embarrassing fashion for 64 as the hosts wrested the command of the match against Australia on the third day of the second Test in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

During the 53rd over of the Pakistan second innings, Ali steered a Peter Siddle delivery through slips and the ball rolled towards the thirdman boundary.

Ali did not run, believing he had hit a boundary, and met Asad Shafiq in the middle of the pitch to talk.

ABU DHABI:

WICKET LOST

But the ball stopped before the boundary at thirdman, and the chasing Mitchell Starc threw it at the striker’s end and captain Tim Paine whipped the bails off to Pakistan’s surprise.

Ali, playing his 67th Test, and Shafiq, playing his 63rd, were dumbfounded while the Australians celebrated a little slice of luck, dropping Pakistan to 160/4 in its second innings.

Azhar Ali was caught and bowled by Nathan Lyon for 15 in the first innings when the Australia spinner scalped four wickets in six deliveries.

Following the first Test which ended in a draw in Dubai, Pakistan have set Australia a massive target of 538 runs to chase down in a little more than two days.
