Three arrested for beating up Dalit men in Gujarat
Police on Saturday arrested three persons for making casteist remarks and thrashing three Dalit youth in Gir Somnath district’s Una.
The arrest was made in connection with an incident on November 8 at Nandrak village, some 400 km from Ahmedabad.
The complaint was filed by one of the victims, Manu Solanki, 27, who has claimed that one of the accused, Ajit Gohil, was arrested for his involvement in the 2016 Una flogging case and is currently out on bail.
The three other accused are Mahendra Gohil, Kishor Gohil and Aniruddh Gohil.
Police on Saturday, however, dismissed the claim that Ajit was also accused in Una flogging incident where in self-styled cow vigilantes had thrashed four youth for allegedly killing a cow in July 2016.
“Ajit, Mahendra and Kishor have been arrested so far,” said a police spokesperson.
An FIR has been lodged with Una police station and the four accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
