Three ar­rested for beat­ing up Dalit men in Gu­jarat

Po­lice on Satur­day ar­rested three per­sons for mak­ing casteist re­marks and thrash­ing three Dalit youth in Gir Som­nath district’s Una.

The ar­rest was made in con­nec­tion with an in­ci­dent on November 8 at Nan­drak vil­lage, some 400 km from Ahmedabad.

The com­plaint was filed by one of the vic­tims, Manu Solanki, 27, who has claimed that one of the ac­cused, Ajit Go­hil, was ar­rested for his in­volve­ment in the 2016 Una flog­ging case and is cur­rently out on bail.

The three other ac­cused are Ma­hen­dra Go­hil, Kishor Go­hil and Aniruddh Go­hil.

Po­lice on Satur­day, how­ever, dis­missed the claim that Ajit was also ac­cused in Una flog­ging in­ci­dent where in self-styled cow vig­i­lantes had thrashed four youth for al­legedly killing a cow in July 2016.

“Ajit, Ma­hen­dra and Kishor have been ar­rested so far,” said a po­lice spokesper­son.

An FIR has been lodged with Una po­lice sta­tion and the four ac­cused have been booked un­der var­i­ous sec­tions of the In­dian Pe­nal Code and the Sched­uled Castes and the Sched­uled Tribes (Preven­tion of Atroc­i­ties) Act.
