Leader of Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy of the YSRCongress resumedhismarathon foot march, Praja Sankalpa Yatra, at Payakapadu of Srikakulam district in the backward north coastal region of Andhra Pradesh on Monday after taking a break of more than two weeks for recuperation following a knife attack. Jagan had taken a break after the attack on him in Visakhapatnam airport on September 25. He resumed the march amid tight security.

The attack by 30-year old Janipalli Srinivasa Rao with a knife had triggered an intense debate surrounding the security provided to the opposition leader by the TDP government. Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police Pala Raju told media that security for Jagan Reddy has been beefed up. Reddy’s padyatra has been brought under a three-layered security cover . The district police provided identity cards to people wishing to meet the YSRC leader. The whole mass contact programme has been brought under surveillance of drone cameras on a daily basis. The padyatra route is getting sanitised, said the SP.

Jaganmohan Reddy is reportedly under threat from the supporters of TDP’s slain MLA Paritala

Reddy has been accused of having masterminded the killing of Ravi by his widow Paritala Suneetha.

After a group of YSR Congress former MPs petitioned union home minister Rajnath Singh seeking additional security for their leader, his mother Y.S. Vijayamma on Sunday demanded Z Plus category security under special circumstances.

Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police RP Thakur said the state police will extend a foolproof security cover to the opposition leader .

A YSRC Congress spokesman told Hindustan Times that Jagan Reddy is expected to talk in detail and unfold the alleged conspiracy at a public meeting at Parvatipuram on Saturday.
