On the day that Uttar Pradesh government transferred senior superintendent of police Bulandshahr, Krishna Bahadur Singh to the office of director general of police, the Army handed over its soldier Jitendra Malik, accused of firing in Bulandshahr on December 3 leading to the death of a police inspector, to the UP police for further investigation, army officials said on Saturday.
Jitendra Malik alias Jeetu Fauji, who was posted at the 22 Rashtriya Rifles unit in Sopore town, was indentified as one of the 27 accused named in connection with the Bulandshahr violence in which a police inspector and a village youth were killed, after the police scanned multiple videos of the incident. A senior officer privy to the investigation said the man had gone missing after the incident.
Sources said that after getting a nod from top officials of the army, it was decided to hand over Malik to police custody for further investigation.
The UP government transferred Bulandshahr senior superintendent of police (SSP) KB Singh for alleged negligence of duty during the clashes that broke out in Mahwa village on Monday, even as chief minister Yogi Adityanath said on Friday that the killing of the police inspector in the melee was an “accident” and not a case of mob lynching.
Singh has been transferred and attached to the director general of police (DGP) headquarters in Lucknow. He will be replaced by Sitapur SSP Prabhakar Chaudhary, said principal secretary (home) Arvind Kumar. The government also transferred Syana circle officer Satya Prakash Sharma and Chingrwathi

State authorities swung into action soon after the chief minister held a meeting with principal secretary Kumar and DGP OP Singh on Friday night. The meeting was called after additional director general of police (intelligence) SB Shirodkar submitted a report on the December 3 violence.
Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and a 21-year-old man, Sumit Kumar, were killed on Monday as a rampaging mob torched vehicles and clashed with security forces for three hours in Mahwa village in Bulandshahr district, venting their anger after some cows were allegedly slaughter.
Adityanath, at a media event in Delhi on Friday, said the Bulandshahr incident was actually an accident.
