THREE DECOYS IN SIX DAYS, SEVEN HELD
DAY OFF Wait now on for Tuesday, when the fate of 2,274 candidates in Raj will be known
After running a charged campaigning for weeks and months, candidates contesting the assembly elections breathed a sigh of relief on Saturday and spent time with their family members a day after the polling.
While voters have decided their fate, which would now be known only on Tuesday, candidates contesting the elections came at ease with their lives as the frenzy of polling on 199 seats in the state ended Friday. While some spent time with their family members after several months, others took a break from the election euphoria and went on to play recreational sports.
Prashant Sharma, Congress’ candidate from Amber constituency, said that he got an opportunity to spend time with his 85-year-old mother after a long time. “When you have a public life, you have very little time fopr your family. Although supporters have still been coming to meet me since the morning, I am really happy that I could get some time to spend with my family today. I had breakfast with them and it was followed by a long chat with my mother,” Sharma said.
“One of my close relatives had died recently and I could not attend his funeral due to the elections. I will be meeting the family today. Moreover, my nephew met with an accident recently. So I will be paying him a visit too.”
Mahesh Joshi, who contested from Hawa Mahal constituency, said that it has been months since he has sleep for more than 3.5 hours in a day. “I got a good massage and a haircut in the morning. I completely refrained from enquiring about the polling from my supporters. I did not ask even a single person about how did the polling go. I just relaxed and spent time with my family. Also, I will meet all my friends and acquaintances today,” Joshi said.
Taking a complete break from work, Rafiq Khan, who contested from Adarsh Nagar constituency, went to play golf with his friends. “I slept for long today, and went to play golf with my friends. I had been skipping it since a long time due to the elections. I will be attending several personal functions in the evening,” Khan said.
Archana Sharma, who contested from Malviya Nagar, said that it was “after a long time” that she could meet her daughter, a resident doctor at SMS Hospital. “Even though she lives nearby, I could not meet my daughter for a long time. Going to meet her was the first thing I did in the morning. I will relax and take a good afternoon nap,” Sharma said.
Candidate from the same constituency, Kalicharan Saraf spent time with his grandchildren, said his son Ashish Saraf.
“Although nobody can sleep well until the results are out, my father was at ease today and spent time with his grandchildren. He will be meeting his supporters to gather feedback on the polls though,” said Saraf.
Contesting elections for the first time, Sitaram Agarwal said he could renew his morning routine of visiting Govind Devji temple after a gap of 21 days. “I could not spend time with my grandchildren for a month due to the campaigning. Since this morning, I spent time with my grand children, Manya, Yashwi, Ayan and Palak,” Agarwal said.
