Jail inmates awarded on Human Rights Day

On the occasion of Human Rights Day, 12 jail inmates and nine prison administrators were honoured with ‘Tinka Tinka’ awards at Jaipur Central Jail on Monday.
Tinka Tinka awards are organised by prison reform activist Vartika Nanda to recognise talents of jail inmates in the field of poetry, prose, arts and crafts.
The awards were distributed by Bhupinder Singh, director general, jail, AK Maheshwari, DG, Bureau of Police Research and Development and Rupinder Singh, inspector general, jail (Jaipur). Bhupinder Singh said, “There is scope of improvement in both; our system as well as department. A friendly environment can eliminate lacunae.”
Raja Ram, 33, lodged in Bhatinda Central Jail was given first prize in the painting category for 2018. Ram was given award for his painting “the dreaming kids” depicting two children, one poor and other rich dreaming for a better life. The poor is dreaming of food and the rich is holding a laptop.
Shobha Ram, 36, lodged in Central Jail, Bilaspur has won the second prize. Consolation prize was given to Sudeb Manmohan Pal, 36, a convict in Nasik Central Jail for his painting.
Chintan Vidhysagar Upadhyay, 46, lodged in Thane Central Jail was given a special award for his contribution towards teaching the conceptualisation of artwork into inmates.
Upadhyay was a visual artist before imprisonment. He created almost 20 paintings inside jail, one of which was purchased by film maker Kiran Rao for a price of ₹4.5 lakh.
