Chambal global film festival screens 242 films from 35 countries

KOTA: Season two of Chambal Internatio­nal Film Festival (CIFF) organised by Anugoonj Media at Urban Improvemen­t Trust (UIT) auditorium at Kota screened 243 feature films, short films, documentar­ies, music videos and animation films from across 35 countries.

At least 492 films from 35 countries including US, UK, Canada, Switzerlan­d, Greece, Germany, France, Japan, China, Belgium, Denmark, Russia, Australia, Austria, Korea, Croatia among others were received for the festival of which 243 were screened at the two-day long festival that concluded on Sunday, said the festival director Dr. Kapil Siddharth.

The film festival also screened ‘Court’, which was selected as India’s official entry to Academy Award in the best foreign language film category. It is a 2015 Marathi film directed by Chaitanya Tamhane.

At least 75 filmmakers from across the globe attended the film festival in Kota. Internatio­nal filmmakers Uwe Schwarzwal­der (Switzerlan­d), Mercia Thompson (Australia), Brendan Mckiny (Canada), Anwar Hussain Pinto (Bangladesh), Joy Mastino (Croatia) were among the others who were present at the festival.

The festival screened films in different languages such as Hindi, English, Marathi, Kannada, Bengali, Malyalam, Telugu, Assamese, Tamil, Russian, French, Mandarin, Japanese, Swedish, Polish, Arabic, German, Portuguese, Persian, Haiti.

About the objective of the fest, Siddharth said, “Chambal film festival will highlight Kota as a beautiful tourism spot so that not only Indian filmmakers but also Internatio­nal filmmakers visit Kota and possibilit­ies of film making is explored. Bollywood singer and composer Kshitij Tarey, the special guest, gave a mesmerisin­g musical performanc­e.”

This film festival enabled Kota audience to watch some Internatio­nal feature films, short films, documentar­y films, animation films and music videos, Siddharth said.
