Father, uncle of discom staff who siphoned off govt funds arrested

JAIPUR: The father and an uncle of Ajmer Discom’s assistant administra­tive officer Annapurna Sain, who was suspended in December for allegedly siphoning off government funds worth crores of rupees, were arrested on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

Annapurna, who is on the run, is the mastermind in siphoning off ₹2,28 crore by forging salary sheets of Discom staff, they said.

The two arrested are Virendra Kumar Sain, the father of 32-yearold Annapurna, and her uncle Naresh Kumar. Annapurna allegedly deposited ₹55,51, 773 in the bank accounts of her father and her uncle. Police in Ajmer’s Christinag­naj area are probing where did they spend the money.

SHO of Christiang­naj police station Likhma Ram said, “We have got evidence that ₹52,78,447 was deposited in Virendra’s bank account and ₹2,73,336 in Naresh’s by Annapurna.

“We are also trying to find out whether they have other bank accounts. In the past, She had deposited money in the account of one Rahul Bawle, an Indore resident,” the officer said.

“The initial investigat­ion by Discom Ajmer circle indicates she fraudulent­ly added account numbers of her relatives in the salary sheets and subsequent­ly transferre­d money,” he added.

Virendra and Naresh were booked for criminal conspiracy. Both were presented before a court on Monday from they have been send to judicial custody.

“Annapurna was adjudged Mrs Rajasthan at a beauty pageants in Mumbai in 2017. The actual amount of fraud could run into crores,” the officer said.
