Career counsellin­g portal for higher secondary school students launched

JAIPUR: In a bid to facilitate career counsellin­g for the higher secondary school students, education minister Govind Singh Dotasra launched Rajiv Gandhi career portal on Wednesday.

The portal has been developed to inform the students of class 9 to 12 about the various career options, entrance exams, scholarshi­p, employment courses, among others, a press release by the education department said.

According to the release, the portal has been prepared with the help of UNICEF and is the first of its kind in the country.

Dotasra said the career counsellin­g portal would prove helpful for 23 lakh school students of the country. “The portal would provide informatio­n regarding 200 vocational and 237 profession­al courses. Informatio­n regarding more than 455 career opportunit­ies, prominent 10,000 colleges in the country, 960 scholarshi­ps and more than 955 exams will also be provided on the portal,” he said. A career counsellin­g cell named ‘Rajiv Gandhi career portal’ was also announced by the minister.

According to a press release by the UNICEF on Wednesday, Rajasthan is the first state in India to launch the career guidance portal with UNICEF support and such a portal is expected to be launched in 16 other states.

“The state government has endeavored to bring a range of careers for the students and UNICEF has supported the department of education to develop the career guidance portal. This effort is expected to empower the adolescent­s, especially t hos e c o ming from deprived f amilies t o make informed decisions on their profession­al front,” said UNICEF chief, Isabelle Bardem
