JAIPUR: State BJP president Madanlal Saini on Friday said the Congress government has cheated farmers by not fulfilling its promise of complete loan waiver. He said the BJP will fight for the rights of the farmers, youth and the poor.

The BJP held a statewide ‘jail bharo andolan’ to protest against what it called the Congress government’s failure over the loan waiver promise. Thousands of workers courted arrest.

In Jaipur, Saini led the BJP’S ‘jail bharo andolan’. Workers took out a rally from the BJP headquarters to the Civil Lines railway crossing. Some workers sustained injuries in a scuffle with police. A BJP worker, Anju Mishra, sustained a fracture in her arm and was admitted to SMS hospital. The protesters were dispersed by police.

Addressing the party functionaries, Saini said the Congress government is anti-farmer.

“Congress has failed to fulfil promises it had made before the assembly elections. Congress president Rahul Gandhi had said that within 10 days of forming the government, the Congress would implement loan waiver but they are now cheating farmers,” he said.

“It is 50 days since the government was formed but the government is not serious about the issue. Till the government does not implement complete loan waiver for farmers, the BJP will not let the government rest in peace.”

Saini said the government has not clarified from where it will arrange funds for the loan. The government is forming committees and study groups to cheat farmers, he said.

He said, “The BJP is the well- wisher of farmers. The BJP government in the state had waived loans up to ~50,000 for farmers and the BJP government at the Centre had brought schemes, such as crop insurance and soil health testing, for welfare of farmers.”

BJP state general secretary Bhajanlal Sharma, state secretary Mukesh Dadhich, MLAS Satish Poonia, Kalicharan Saraf, Narpat Singh Rajvi and Ashok Lahoty, former ministers Arun Chaturvedi and Rajpal Shekhawat, BJP women’s wing presid e nt Madhu Sharma, a nd spokespersons Alka Gurjar, Laxmikant Bhardwaj, Amit Goyal, Mukesh Pareek and Pankaj Meena were present along with thousands of workers.

In Bharatpur, BJP workers and leaders staged a sit-in at the collectorate. They courted arrest and were taken to a makeshift jail in the Loharagh stadium.

BJP district president Dr Jitendra Foujdar said the Congress government has cheated farmers over loan waiver.

BJP MP from Bharatpur Bahadur Koli, mayor of municipal corporation Shiv Singh Bhont, zila pramukh Beena Singh and workers participated in the protest.

Addressing the ‘jail bharo andolan’ in Kota, MP Om Birla said the Congress has come to power on the basis of poll promises but people would teach it a lesson in Lok Sabha polls for failing to fulfil the promises. “The countdown for Congress has begun ahead of the Lok Sabha polls,” he said.

In Alwar, around 300 BJP workers and l eaders were arrested and later dispersed. District BJP president Sanjay Naruka said the state government has deceived the public by false promises before assembly elections.
