Dharma cards a 69 to take lead at Golconda Masters

HYDERABAD: M Dharma emerged as the man to beat on the third day of the PGTI’S season-opening Golconda Masters Golf Championsh­ip as he carded twounder 69 in the penultimat­e round to build a two-shot lead at 16-under-197 at the Hyderabad Golf Club (HGC) on Friday.

The chasing pack at 14-under 199 featured some establishe­d names such as Chikkarang­appa (70), Rashid Khan (68), Karandeep Kochhar (66) and rookie Priyanshu Singh (68), the 2019 PGTI Qualifying School champion who is playing only his second profession­al event.

M Dharma (64-64-69) is a twotime winner on the PGTI and finished tied fifth at the Golconda Masters last year. He has set himself up for his first win since December 2017.

LUCKNOW: A solitary second-half goal by Ines Lardeur helped France beat India juniors 1-0 in the opening game of the fourmatch women’s hockey ‘Test’ series here on Friday.

The Salima Tete-led India failed to score from as many as six penalty corners at the Padma Shri Mohd Shahid Stadium. They also did not enjoy better ball possession. Ines made full use of France’s only penalty corner, pushing a slow hit into the goal in the 36th minute.

GWALIOR: The semi-finals of the 9t h Senior ( Men) National Hockey Championsh­ip 2019 (A Division) will see defending champions Punjab take on Punjab & Sind Bank while last year’s runners-up Petroleum Sports Promotion Board will face Railway Sports Promotion Board in what promises to be an actionpack­ed Saturday.

Punjab are unbeaten in the tournament so f ar, having drawn one game against Services Sports Control Board in the round robin stage.

JULANIYA SPORTS SECY

NEWDELHI: Radheyshya­m Julaniya will replace Rahul Bhatnagar as the union sports secretary. Julaniya is a 1985 batch IAS officer and was working with Madhya Pradesh cadre till now, an official said. Bhatnagar, an officer of the 1983 batch from Uttar Pradesh, has been released by the Sports Ministry.
