JAIPUR: Former BJP minister Arun Chaturvedi on Saturday accused the Congress of failing to fulfil the promise of providing reservation to Gujjars.

“In the previous elections, the Congress promised reservations to Gujjars and four other communities. The Congress got votes on the basis of these promises. Now, be it loan waiver promise, providing unemployment allowance or providing reservations to five castes, the Congress government is trying to run away from its responsi- bilities by putting the onus on the Centre,” Chaturvedi said at a press conference.

Chaturvedi said the issue concerns the reservations in education and jobs in the state and therefore is the responsibility of the state government.

“The statement given by the chief minister is completely irresponsible and he is trying shirking from his responsibilities,” he added.

Gehlot had said that the state government has done its bit on reservation and now the demand can only be fulfilled through an amendment in the constitution for which the Gujjars should approach the PM and union home minister.

Chaturvedi said the BJP gov- ernment in 2010 took an administrative decision to give 1% reservation when the limit of the reservation margin was set to 50%.

“We ask the Congress party to talk to the representatives of the Gujjar community. An atmosphere of anarchy is prevailing in the state presently. People have to face a lot of inconvenience due to the trains being stopped and the government will have to face a lot of economic burden. The government should talk to the representatives of the community in order to find a solution to the problem,” said Chaturvedi.
