Odisha woman says wrong leg was op­er­ated upon

BHUBANESWAR: In a case of al­leged med­i­cal neg­li­gence, a Dalit woman in Odisha’s back­ward dis­trict of Keonjhar on Sun­day com­plained that her wrong leg had been op­er­ated by the med­i­cal staff of a sub-di­vi­sional hospi­tal where she went for treat­ment. Mi­tarani Jena is in her early 40s, a res­i­dent of Kha­bil vil­lage, who went for treat­ing a wound on her left leg at the Anand­pur sub-di­vi­sional hospi­tal com­plained that the staff at the hospi­tal op­er­ated her right leg in­stead of left af­ter ad­min­is­ter­ing anes­the­sia. Ac­cord­ing to Mi­tarani’s fam­ily mem­bers, she had been suf­fer­ing from in­tense pain on her left an­kle fol­low­ing which she was taken for a med­i­cal check-up. Af­ter in­spect­ing the pa­tient’s con­di­tion, the doc­tor said an in­fected wound needed a surgery.
