JAIPUR: Inspired by ‘Pad man,’ a Bollywood comedy-drama that talks about the importance of menstural hygiene, a group of school students in Jaipur have formed ‘Innayat’ an organisation aimed at educating school students as well as women living in slums on the health benefits of using sanitary pads.

The 12-member group consists of students from class 10 a nd c l a s s 1 1 f r o m vari o us schools. “We came together through social media and started the group after being influnced by Pad Man,” said Vinayak Agarwal, a class 11 student from Jayshree Periwal International School, Jaipur.

The students have also made an explanatory video with the help of a gynecologist for screeening in slums and generating donations for the cause. The slum campaign, which includes counselling and discussion with women and family members, began after a local company agreed to sell sanitary pads at cheaper rates, said Agarwal. “We are also reaching out to other schools to add new members to our group,” said Agarwal. Spreading awareness is key to menstural hygiene.
