BHARATPUR: The official cars of Bharatpur mayor and commissioner of Bharatpur Municipal Corporation were seized for auction after a court’s order on Thursday.

Staff of the court reached the corporation’s office and seized the two vehicles – RJ 05 UA 6066 (of mayor) and RJ 05 UA 9947 (of commissioner).

The order was passed on a petition by Nand Kishor Verma of Agrasen Colony f i l ed on August 8, 2018, against t he municipal corporation for not laying sewer line. The court ordered officials to construct the sewer but after the order was not c o mpli e d wi t h, i t ordered their cars to be seized and auctioned on Thursday.

Court employee Virendra Kumar Gupta said the court ordered the officials to construct sewer line after hearing the petitioner last year but the civic body did not comply with the order. Bharatpur mayor Shiv Singh Bhont said due to fund crunch, the corporation was unable to construct the sewer. The sewer is to be built by ~70 lakh and the corporation doesn’t have the funds for it, he said. The corporation is also facing lack of staff. “Without our official vehicles, we will be unable to supervise development in the city,” he said. The mayor said laying the sewer was the responsibility of the Urban Improvement Trust.
