JAIPUR: The Pink City is likely to get relief from traffic congestion soon as the Jaipur Smart City Limited (JSCL) is developing two underground multi-level parking spaces in the walled city areas. The construction of the parking lots has started at the Chandpole grain market and Chaughan stadium.

Alok Ranjan, the chief executive officer of JSCL, said the decision to set up the parking lots has been taken following a study for developing the Integrated Transit Management System (ITMS) in the city. The study says that parking facility should be provided to the walled city people within 300 metres.

“We have developed Chandpole and Chaughan stadium parking areas, so that it would cover at least half of the market. If we now have a parking at Atish Market, then with a parking at Rambagh, which is already constructed, four parkings will be available,” said Ranjan. “Now, if we draw a circle connecting all the markets, the commuters would have parkings available within 300 metres and a large area would be covered,” he added.

The problem of parking lots being used as garage is prevailing in the walled city for a long time, even at the parking facilities developed by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and the ones maintained by the Jaipur Municipal Corporation. Though the JMC has specified two-hour time interval for the vehicles to be parked, the walled city shop owners complain of the parking lots being used as a garage. “Parking beings used a garage is a problem, and to address the issue, the rates for longer periods will be rationalised. There would be proper system to monitor the issue,” Ranjan said, adding that people parking their vehicles for more than a specified period will be warned of action.

Even as the construction of the underground multi-level parking l ot s i s going on at Chandpole and Chaughan stadium, construction of another parking lot at Jaipuria Hospital will be started soon, said officials. The proposal for developing a parking lot at Atish Market and Janta Market is also under process, the officials said.

THE EQUIVALENT CAR SPACE (ECS) FOR THE PARKING LOTS AT CHANDPOLE, CHAUGHAN STADIUM AND JAIPURIA HOSPITAL WILL BE 190, 400 AND 220 RESPECTIVELY
