JAIPUR: Three people arrested from Suratgarh town of Rajasthan’s Ganganagar district on Sunday have told police that they got three counterfei­t Rs 2,000 notes for Rs 2,000 from a ma n i n H a r y a n a , wh o is absconding.

Police recovered from the three men 60 counterfei­t currency notes, printers, Mahatma Gandhi seals, ink and paper on which t he f ake notes were printed.

The accused have been identified as Aswhini Kumar (28), Mohammad Hussain (36) and Angrej Singh (34) of Ganganagr.

Station house officer of Suratgarh town police station Nikit Kumar Pareek said they got a tipoff that a few people were circulatin­g fake notes of Rs 2,000 in the market. Acting on the tip, a special team was formed to nab the accused. “After collecting informatio­n through various sources, locations of Kumar and Hussain were raided from where 20 duplicate notes of Rs 2,000 were found. When the duo was interrogat­ed, they told about another member of their group identified as Angrej Singh. After which Singh was also arrested and 10 fake notes of Rs 2,000 were recovered from his possession,” said Pareek.

When Singh was interrogat­ed, he told police that he used to buy the fake notes from Surjit Kumar of Hudina village in Mahendraga­rh district of Haryana. A team was rushed to Hudina village to arrest Surjit, said Pareek.

“Angrej Singh during interrogat­ion confessed that Surjit used to print fake notes of Rs 2,000 at his home. When police raided Surjit house he was not present. But equipment like printer, white paper, ink and fake seals used to print fake notes were recovered,” added Pareek.

Thirty fake notes of Rs 2000 were also recovered from Surjit Kumar’s house of. A team of Suratgarh police is camping in Haryana to arrest him.

The a c c us e d have b e e n arrested under section 489 (using forged or counterfei­t currency as genuine) of Indian Penal Code. JAIPUR: The crime branch of Jaipur police recovered banned currency notes of Rs 10 lakh face value from the possession of five people, police said on Sunday.

Jaipur police commission­er Anand Srivastava said a tip-off was received on Saturday that a few persons are coming towards Jaipur in a car carrying currency which was banned in 2016.

“Acting on the tip, barricadin­g was done at the NH-8 falling under Harmara police station. When the suspected vehicle was checked, 10 bundles of banned notes of Rs 1000 amounting to Rs 10 lakh (face value) were recovered from the possession of five persons travelling in the car,” said Srivastava.

The accused have been identified as Ayub Mohammad (35), Pradyuman Singh (37), Rajkumar Jangid (32), Bhanwarlal Meena (24) and Gokul Meena (25), all are residents of Jaipur, and were arrested under relevant sections of Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilitie­s) Act, 2017. Prima facie police have found that the notes belonged to Jangid. The accused thought of using the notes in small amount in the Walled City. The income t a x d e p a r t ment ha s b e e n informed about the recovery.
