Police team chasing ‘extortioni­sts’ comes under attack, 4 hurt

POLICE IN KARAULI GOT A COMPLAINT THAT FIVE MISCREANTS DRESSED IN POLICE UNIFORM WERE EXTORTING MONEY FROM PEOPLE IN VEHICLES PASSING THROUGH A ROAD IN KAYAMPURA VILLAGE

BHARATPUR: Four policemen were injured and a jeep was damaged when a police party chasing some alleged extortioni­sts came under attack by some villagers in Karauli district on Monday.

According to informatio­n, Sapotra police in Karauli district received a complaint on phone in the morning that five miscreants dressed in police uniform were extorting money from the people in vehicles passing through a road in Kayampura village.

After receiving the informatio­n, a police team was sent to arrest the alleged extortioni­sts. The police managed to arrest two alleged extortioni­sts, while others tried to flee.

When police chased the fleeing extortioni­sts to a nearby village, some villagers attacked the police team. Four policemen were injured and a police jeep was damaged in the attack, Karauli superinten­dent of police Preeti Chandra said.

The police have booked two of t he nabbed at t ackers and searching for the absconding extortioni­sts, Chandra said. Assistant sub-inspector Chandra Hussain, head constable Harkesh Singh and two constables were injured in the attack, she added.
