REPRESENTATIVES OF POLITICAL PARTIES TOLD THE CEO THAT THEY WILL CONDUCT AWARENESS DRIVES TO GET FIRSTTIME VOTERS TO REGISTER THEMSELVES

JAIPUR: Rajasthan chief electoral officer (CEO) Anand Kumar on Monday asked political parties to play an important role in conducting Lok Sabha elections peacefully and impartially.

He asked parties to cooperate with the poll panel in getting permissions for holding public meetings, rallies and vehicle rallies on time.

“All political parties should take prior permission on time at the administrative level for taking out rallies, holding public meetings etc and cooperate,” Kumar said.

He was addressing a meeting of representatives from national political parties at the secretariat.

Kumar said eligible voters should not be deprived of getting their names included in the voter lists, and can apply for the voter ID at least until 10 days prior to candidates’ filing of nomination.

He asked the political parties to cooperate in getting the names included in the voter lists. “All political parties should make their booth level agents active at the respective parliamentary constituencies and cooperate in getting the names of eligible people included in the voter lists.”

The CEO said complaints of violation of model code of conduct can be filed on the “cvigil” mobile application, after which action will be taken in 100 minutes. The information of violation can also be given on helpline number 1950, he said.

Kumar said voters can find their names in the voter lists using “Raj-election” application and on the poll panel’s Rajasthan website.

The CEO said “This time, voters cannot vote on the basis of voter slip during the general elections 2019, as the voter now has to show their voter ID card with photo, and in case they don’t have it, then they can use one of 11 other documents.”

He said the poll panel expects political parties to inform the change to voters.

During the discussion, representatives of political parties told the CEO that they will conduct awareness drives to get first-time voters to register themselves.

Representatives from political parties including Sushil Sharma, Gulam Nizamuddin and Vijay Garg from the Congress, Nahar Singh Maheshwari from Bharatiya Janata Party, Narendra Acharya from Communist Party of India, Sumitra Chopra and Gurcharan Singh from Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Nripesh Bharatpuria from Nationalist Congress Party attended the meeting.

Apart from Kumar, additional CEOS Rekha Gupta and Joga Ram, deputy CEO Vinod Pareek, special officer Hari Shankar Goyal and other officers of the department were also present. Voting in 13 parliamentary constituencies on April 29
