PM Modi, NDA trying to create two Indias: Rahul
EYE ON POLLS Congress president says BJP govt is scared of House probe into Rafale deal
DEHRADUN: Congress president Rahul Gandhi, while launching the party’s campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Uttarakhand on Saturday, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government of “trying to create two Indias”.
Claiming that “there is no space for truth in the BJP”, Gandhi said the Bjp-led government at the Centre was scared of a jointparliamentary probe into the Rafale deal.
Addressing a rally at Dehradun’s Parade Ground, he said that the former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chief Alok Verma was also removed from his post because he “wanted to probe (Rafale deal)”.
The government has denied allegations of irregularities in the Rafale deal.
“Immediately after the Pul- wama attack, in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed, the Congress had said it was with the government and the country. I cancelled all my programmes. But Narendra Modi was posing for the cameras to shoot for a National Geographic documentary at the Corbett National Park,” the Congress president said.
“Modi shoots for three-and-a- half hours for a National Geographic film on a day something like Pulwama happens and he still talks about patriotism,” he said.
On February 14, 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed when a Jaishe-mohammed terrorist rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into their convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Gandhi promised that if the Congress is voted to power, the new government will introduce a minimum income scheme. Everyone earning below a certain level would be given a guaranteed minimum income, which would go straight into accounts of the beneficiaries, he said.
Manish Khanduri, son of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and former Uttarakhand chief minister BC Khanduri, joined the Congress at the rally. “There is a reason why (Manish) Khanduriji is here. BC Khanduri was the chairman of defence committee of Parliament. He gave his whole life for the country. But when he asked a question on national security in the committee saying the government is not doing what it should to help the armed forces, Narendra Modi removed him from his position,” Gandhi said. The voting for Lok Sabha polls will be held from April 11 to May 19.
