JAIPUR: BJP MLA Kalicharan Saraf sat on a protest following the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) action on illegal dairies on Monday. The JMC officials on Monday morning arrived at Gurjar Basti in Malviya Nagar to impose action on illegal dairies which are being set up in the city by catching the cows and sending them to gaushalas.

As the crowd assembled to protest against the same, Saraf along with Deputy Mayor Manoj Bharadwaj sat on a protest along with the locals against JMC’S action.

Commotion was caused among the residents and the JMC officials. Even as 16 cows were taken away by the JMC, the officials did not carry out further action.

MLA Kalicharan Saraf said that the protest would continue till the cows are released. “We have been sitting on a protest since morning and will keep sitting in the night as well if we have to. Till the cows are not released we will not go back,” s ai d Saraf.

Mayor Vishnu Dutt Sharma said that JMC took action on illegal dairies as per the norms. “Several owners of the illegal dairies often leave their cattle in open to loiter. These dairies are illegal which have been running since a very long time and the JMC went to the area to take appropriate actions on the same,” said Sharma.

“The caught cattle are sent to the Gaushala and we are following the orders of the high court in the matter. FIR has to be lodged and the cattle can be given back only after paying the due penalty, as per the norms,” said Sharma.

Official at the JMC said that the action was being taken considering both illegal dairies and stray cattle menace prevailing in the city for a year.

Saraf however, claimed that the JMC took away cows which were domesticated by the residents.

“We have no problem with the JMC catching stray cattle or even carrying out action on the illegal dairies. The team of the JMC took away cows from the homes which had a single cattle and was domesticated by the family. When a single cow per house is allowed to be kept, they cannot take away the cow untying it from the tether,” said Saraf.

Deputy Mayor Manoj Bharadwaj protesting alongside Saraf said that the officials also did not provide prior notice before carrying out the action hence faced protest from the people.
