Progress in rural schemes declines in 25 Raj districts
JAIPUR: The schemes run by the rural development and panchayati raj department have shown a decline in progress in 25 of the 33 districts of Rajasthan, according to an official assessment.
The department assessed the progress of schemes -MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act), PM housing (rural), rural development and panchayati raj schemes, and Rajasthan Grameen Aajeevika Vikas Parishad (RAJEEVIKA) – during financial year 2018-19. The assessment was done for February and March this year.
A senior official of the department said the monthly ranking exercise has started from January this year to ensure that targets are met and people avail of the scheme benefit on time.
According to the rankings, eight districts have registered progress. Ajmer has maintained the first position in February and March, Jhunjhunu has come a rank down, Bhilwara improved to third from 13th, Dholpur from ninth to fourth, Chittorgarh from second to fifth, Churu from 10th to sixth, Kota from eighth to seventh, and Tonk from 15th to 14th.
The di s t r i c t s wit h s l o w progress are Bharatpur, which came down to 26th rank from seventh, Dausa from sixth to 22nd, Nagaur from 12th to 26th, Bundi from 12th to 25th, and Rajsamand from 14th to 27th.
Additional chief secretary, RDPR, Rajeshwar Singh said the slow progress was mainly due to election code of conduct as no new sanction or work can be started during this period. “We are expecting that by next month progress will be achieved,” he said. On slow progress, Dausa collector Avichal Chaturvedi said, “Due to some schemes, the overall ranking got affected. We are putting extra efforts and reviewing the schemes regularly, and identifying the shortc o mi n g s . ” H o w e v e r , in MGNREGA mandays are highest ever in last 10 years, he added.
Nagaur collector Dinesh Kumar Yadav said due to election code of conduct no new work or sanction could be started. “We are improving the progress and in a month will catch up,” he said. Bhilwara collector Rajendra Bhatt said team work and effective monitoring were the reasons for good progress.
