JAIPUR: State BJP president Satish Poonia on Monday said chief minister Ashok Gehlot has failed to govern and put a full stop on the state’s development because he is concentrating on finding gainful employment for his son.

Speaking to reporters at the Circuit House in Jodhpur, Poonia said Gehlot was not worried about the unemployed youth in the state but was busy trying to establish his son.

Poonia said Gehlot had taken it upon himself to establish his son Vaihav in politics but could not overcome the shock of his son’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

However, the Rajasthan Cricket Association provided a good opportunity and the CM got his son elected as RCA president, said Poonia.

Referring to the poor governance of the state, he said usually anti-incumbency sets in within two or three years of a government but in the case of the Congress government, anti-incumbency has set in within 10 months because no work has been done.

Referring to the infighting in the Congress, Poonia said, “Since the government has been formed the CM and deputy CM have been at loggerheads and the CM keeps running off the Delhi Durbar to save his chair.”

He said the people of the state are paying for this infighting. “The government has failed on every front, there is no development work happening and no new projects have been launched.”

Poonia said fearing defeat in the local body elections, the government kept changing its stance and kept people in confusion.

“First the government decided to go in for direct elections for electing heads of local bodies. But then fearing defeat, the government decided to go in for indirect elections but that led to a sharp divide in the party. So they decided upon a hybrid formula that will allow even non-councillors to contest elections for heads of local bodies. But the party was divided even on that and the deputy CM openly spoke against it. He said it seems the Congress party and CM are fearful of the local body elections,” said Poonia.

Attacking the government on

SATISH POONIA , state BJP chief the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, Poonia said the crime rate has risen sharply and crimes against women and weaker sections have shot up and the criminals seem to be having a field day.

Countering Poonia, Congress spokesperson Pratap Khachariyawas said the Congress is not a divided house. He said ministers speaking out against the government decision in local body polls was a sign of internal democracy in the party.

Khachariyawas said Poonia is doing politics of deceit and lies. “Poonia should take care of his own party. He had yet to establish himself and prove himself.”

Khachariyawas said Poonia’s attacks show the frustration of the BJP.

“They have no issues to raise and people are not with them. Everyone knows the Congress government is working while the BJP is spouting empty rhetoric.”
