JAIPUR: With the arrest of two persons, the Jaipur rural police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang stealing diesel from trucks of a public sector oil company. However, the mastermind is yet to be arrested.

“Five drums of 3,000-litre capacity and a tanker of 12,000-litre capacity belonging to Bharat Petroleum company were also seized,” Jaipur rural superintendent of police (SP) Shankar Dutt Sharma said.

“We were receiving information that diesel is been stolen from vehicles of Bharat Petroleum depot located in Jobner areas. On Monday, acting on a tip-off, a team was rushed to a hotel located in Boraj area, 200 metres away from the petroleum depot, where two people were caught unloading diesel from the official vehicle of the national company,” said Sharma.

He said that police also raided house of the mastermind, Ram Singh, near Asalpur Phatak from where four more drums of diesel were recovered.

Elaborating on the modus operandi of the gang, Sharma said, “The accused had constructed a 25 feet long tin-shed behind a hotel, which is around 2km away from the oil depot. The shed was constructed in such a manner that nobody can suspect that what is going inside that. The trucks carrying tankers would stop inside the shed and the accused would unlock the seal of the tanker using a master key. They would then steal the diesel using pipes in drums.”

The SP said that the accused would steal diesel only in limited amount to evade suspicion.

Further investigation is on.
