Pak PM ready to accept protesters’ demands: Report
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said that he was ready to accept all “valid” demands of the ‘Azadi March’ protesters led by firebrand cleric Maulana Fazlur Rehman, except their call for his resignation.
Khan reportedly made the remarks at a meeting with a team led by defence minister Pervez Khattak, which is negotiating with the opposition parties.
“The government is ready to accept all valid demands except the demand for resignation,” The Express Tribune quoted Khan as saying. On Monday night, the Pakistan Tehreek-eInsaf (PTI) government sent a second delegation to Rehman’s residence to break the impasse in the wake of the Opposition’s bid to oust Khan.
The Jamiat Ulema-e-islam Fazl leader is leading the massive protest, which entered the fifth day on Tuesday. The Opposition parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-nawaz and the Pakistan People Party, have thrown their weight behind the anti-government rally.
TERROR REPORT: PAK DISAPPOINTED WITH US Pakistan on Tuesday expressed “disappointment” over a US report criticising it for its failure to “significantly limit” militant outfits like the LET and the JEM from fundraising and recruiting, saying the document completely overlooks the factual situation on the ground.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office said that the country was committed to take concrete actions under its National Action Plan to eliminate terrorism. The state department’s report had also said that Islamabad did not restrict the Taliban and the Haqqani Network from operating in Pakistan-based safe havens.
