‘SE Deora was issued 11 charge sheets in 16 years’
JAIPUR: Superintending engineer ( S E) Di wan S i ng h Deora, arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) last Friday, was issued 11 charge sheets for irregularities in work and poor performance during his 16 years of service with the mines department, the ACB officials discovered during investigations.
“In 16 years of his service 11 charge sheets had been issued against Deora for violating conduct and classification rules. Most of the charge sheets were issued against him for issuing mining licence illegally, favouring specific mines holders in licence renewing process, ignoring violation of rules and threatening marble holders,” an ACB official familiar with the investigations said.
“Along with that he was also found guilty of collecting royalties and sharing fake informat i on with t he department. Despite so many complaints against Deora, he managed to get field posting, which indicates rampant corruption i n the department,” the official said.
Another ACB official said that Deora misused his powers to make illegal money.
“He used to threaten various mine owners of cancelling their licence and extort money from them on a monthly basis,” the official said.
“Four mines owners, victims of Deora, had approached the ACB five months back,” the official added.
Deora, a resident of Sirohi district, was arrested from Udaipur on Friday after the bureau allegedly found enough evidence against him of misusing his position. According to reports, Deora had seized some trucks from a stone mine and was demanding a bribe of ~7 lakh from the mine owner. He had al l e gedly t aken ~ 1 l akh i n advance from the owner. After verification of the bribe demand by the ACB, Deora was put on awaited posting order.
Later, the ACB lodged a case of disproportionate assets against Deora and raided his properties in Udaipur, Sirohi and Jaipur and recovered cash and documents related to the properties worth crores of rupees.
“Assets worth more than ~ 110 crore were recovered during raids by ACB at his houses,” said the ACB official quoted first.
Other than his house in Sirohi, Deora owned one house each in VIP Colony and near Jeevan Tara Resort in Udaipur. During raids, ACB discovered documents related to one acre land at a prime location in Bangalore worth crores, five properties in Rajasthan, a crusher plant in Sikar, 100 bigha agricultural land in Sirohi and fixed deposits (FDS) worth ~1.81 crore and~ 65,000.
