JAIPUR: Chief Secretary DB Gupta on Tuesday said a Gandhi village will developed in every district to remind future generations about the contribution of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi.

He said as a part of the initiative, a number programmes are being planned, including exhibitions, designated Gandhi corners in schools, digital content and incorporating Gandhi’s role in freedom struggle as a part of school curriculum in a new format. Next year’s World Environment Day will celebrated around the theme of Gandhi, he added.

Gupta was addressing a programme organised in connection with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He said a series of programmes on Gandhi will be organised till October 2, 2020.

The anniversary celebrations will continue till October 2, 2020. “We will also constitute a peace and non-violence department in Rajasthan soon,” he said.

Discussing a book on Gandhi titled ‘Gandhi ek Sachitr jivani,’ by Pramod Kapoor, he said historical events such as Purna Swaraj, Dandi March and Jallianwala Bagh will be observed as a part of the celebrations.

Gupta said Kapoor’s book focuses on the hitherto unknown aspects of Gandhi. “A lot of research has been done on Gandhi, which shows that Gandhi was not a person, but an institution, and a philosophy,” he said.

The chief secretary inaugurated an exhibition on Gandhi’s life featured on 121-feet long Khadi fabric.

Kapoor said that very few people know that Gandhi could write with both hands. While returning from England to South Africa in 1909, he completed a 271-page book ‘Hind Swaraj’ in nine days. When his right hand was tired, he wrote about sixty pages with his left hand.
