Amended policy on jobs to sportspersons soon
JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government will introduce in a month an amended policy on out-of-turn appointments to international and national medal-winning sportspersons from the state in government jobs, officials said.
The previous BJP government brought in the out-of-turn appointment policy for giving jobs to medal winners. But none got the benefit as 2016 was fixed as the year for the policy to come into effect, whereas most of the medals won were in 2014 Asian and Commonwealth Games.
According to the policy, gold medal winners in Olympics, Asiad and Commonwealth Games will get appointment to posts in the Rajasthan Administrative Service and Rajasthan Police Service. In 2014, Rajat Chauhan won gold in Asiad and Apurvi Chandela in Commonwealth Games. In 2014 and 2018, the state won over 15 silver and bronze medals, including those by para-athletes, in Asiad and Commonwealth Games.
A senior sports department official said the policy has been prepared and sent to the department of personnel and legal department for approval. “When the policy was introduced in 2017, sportspersons demanded that it be effective from 2014. The amended policy will be effective from 2014,” the official said. “Para-athletes will be included; 15-20 sportspersons will benefit from the new policy this year.”
The official said the department is also considering making a provision for creating posts, if the applicants deserve. “The department is also working on simplifying the rules to ensure that maximum medal winners get benefit of government jobs.”
The official said the new sports policy will also be introduced in three months.
Earlier, government had announced 2% job reservation to sportspersons who had participated in national and para contests. Medal winners in school games federation and all-india university competition are also included. Provision for jobs has been kept in 56 departments.
