GURUGRAM: A 65-year-old woman allegedly killed herself by jumping off the balcony of her rented apartment on the sixth floor of a condominium in Sector 109 on Monday morning.

The police said the deceased had complained of suffocation to her husband early Monday and had gone to the balcony for some air. After an hour, the family received a call from the security supervisor saying that she was found lying in a pool of blood.

The police have not found any suicide note from her apartment or prescription stating she was being treated for a disease.

“Around 6.45am, we received a call that a resident had killed herself and a team from the Bajghera police station was rushed to the spot,” Preet Pal Sangwan, assistant commissioner of police (crime), said.

Sangwan said the woman got up around 5am and asked her husband for tea. She complained that she was feeling suffocated, following which she went out to the balcony. “She went out and was seen pacing in distress in the CCTV camera footage recovered from the residential complex. She jumped after a few minutes,” he said.

A security guard was the first to spot the body.

The building maintenance staff informed the family, who reached the spot and got the autopsy conducted on Monday itself, the police said.

“We have recorded the statements of the family. They said she had been unwell for the past few days. The reason for the suicide is yet not known but we are investigating,” Sangwan said.
