JAIPUR: The Dholpur police carried out a special drive in more than 100 gram panchayats in the district to instil confidence among voters, so that they could cast their votes in the panchayat polls fearlessly.

Dholpur superintendent of police (SP) Mridul Kachawa said that a special team was formed for the purpose. The team, Vishwas (meaning trust), counselled voters to cast their votes fearlessly in the panchayat elections, as many people are afraid of casting vote in sensitive areas, he said. “Last time during panch and sarpanch elections in 2015, around five incidents of scuffle between different groups were reported. This type of incidents creates fear among the weaker sections and they are afraid of casting their votes,” he said.

“After analysing the past incidents, we found that out of 125 polling booths in district, 25 are sensitive and vulnerable. In order to boost confidence among the voters of these 25 booths, team Vishwas contacted voters in these constituencies and encouraged them to cast their votes fearlessly. Not only these 25 booths, but the team touched 102 polling booths and interacted with people assuring them security,” added Kachawa.

The team Vishwas comprised three male and two female cops. They were also provided a team of videographers and photographers to record the interaction.

Besides, on the inputs collected by team Vishwas, 800 litre of illicit liquor was seized in last five days.
