JAIPUR: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to address a rally in Jaipur on January 28 to corner the Union government on various issues including the Citizenship Amendment Act, the country’s economy and increasing unemployment.

Gandhi’s office, however, is yet to confirm his participation in the rally.

AICC general secretary and incharge of Rajasthan Avinash Pande said Rahul Gandhi will be addressing a rally in Jaipur. “People are angry about various issues including unrest in universities and the politics played on students. The economy is getting weaker day by day,” he said.

He said even the situation of farmers is deteriorating. The rally will put forward these issues before students and farmers, and bring government’s attention on them.

Last week, after the Opposition parties meet, Gandhi had asked Prime Minister to speak to the students of the universities and tell them why the Indian economy has become a disaster and why we have the highest unemployment rate in the last 50 years. He asked the PM to visit any university without police and tell the people what he is going to do with the country.

BJP spokesperson Mukesh Pareek said the way Congress is protesting against the CAA and resisting to implement in their party ruled states is illegal and unconstitutional. The CAA has been passed by both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and states have to implement it. Protesting for the sake of vote bank is unjustified, he added.

Pareek said Congress and Rahul Gandhi are playing vote politics but people of the country will not get misguided by them. “They are raising questions on Indian economy, but currently across the world there is a slowdown. But the GOI is making efforts and in the coming budget will make decisions which will strengthen the economy,” he said.
