Jaipur doctor tests positive, Rajasthan tally reaches 430

CORONA CASES 47 new cases reported; govt makes wearing of masks compulsory in urban areas of state

JAIPUR: A doctor involved in screening work in Jaipur was among 47 new Covid-19 patients reported on Thursday, taking the total tally in Rajasthan to 430, according to the health department.

The Covid-19 tally in Rajasthan doubled within five days. Ramganj and Tablighi Jamaat members and their contacts account for around 200 cases. Health department data shows that around 80 Tablighi Jamaatis have tested positive in Rajasthan and about 110 cases have been reported from Ramganj in Jaipur, where one man who tested positive on March 26 has transmitte­d the infection to scores of others.

According t o t he health department data, the cumulative positive cases in Rajasthan stood at 102 on April 1, which doubled to 200 by April 4. Between April 4 and April 9, the cumulative positive cases have doubled again and stand at over 430.

Till April 1, Bhilwara with 26 cases and Jaipur with 21 cases were the main hot spots. Other districts had cases in single digits. From April 1, cases of Tablighi Jamaat members testing positive for the virus started coming to the fore as they returned from the Markaz event in Delhi. The health department officials said there were around 450 Jamaatis from Rajasthan who attended the event and all had been traced and tested.

By April 9, the corona positive cases have spread to 24 of 33 districts and several new hotspots have emerged. Apart from Jaipur and Bhilwara, Banswara, Biknaer, Churu, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Tonk, Kota and Jhalawar have emerged as the new areas of concern for the government.

Banswara has 12 cases, Bikaner has 20, Churu has 11, Jaisa l mer has 1 9 , Jhunjhunu reported 31, Jodhpur reported 34, Tonk has 27, Kota has 15 and Jhalawar has 9 cases so far.

Rohit Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary, health department said 47 cases were reported in the state on Thursday. Of these, 11 were reported from Jaipur of which eight were from Ramganj. One case was reported from Shastri Nagar and one from Ghat Gate.

Three cases were reported from Jodhpur. One was a 76-yearold man who was identified as symptomati­c during the survey by health workers. He died on April 9 at 12.30 am, said Singh.

The other case was a doctor who was involved in the door-todoor survey in Nagori Gate and got infected and the third was of a man who was a close contact of a previously positive case, said Singh.

Four more evacuees from Iran tested positive, taking their total count to 40, said Singh.

Seven persons with travel history to Indore tested positive in Jhalawar, seven cases were reported from Jhunjhunu, of which two were Tablighi Jamaatis and three were contacts of already positive Jamaat members. One case was of a male with travel history to Qatar and one case was of a male with travel history to Dubai.

Seven cases were also reported from Tonk, all contacts of already positive Tablighi Jamaati members. Two cases were reported from Banswara, both contacts of a previously positive case, said Singh.

The government has made wearing of masks compulsory in all urban areas and agricultur­e mandis across the state.

“To prevent outspread of Covid19, wearing masks has been mandatory at all 196 urban areas (municipal corporatio­n, council and municipali­ty areas) and agricultur­e mandis,” chief minister Ashok Gehlot said said

While reviewing the situation through video conferenci­ng, the CM directed the officials to ensure strict implementa­tion of curfew in 38 areas of the state.
