First batch of vaccine reaches state
520,000 and 100,500 doses of Covid vaccine reached Jaipur and Udaipur respectively
JAIPUR/ UDAIPUR: The first consignment of Covid vaccine reached Jaipur and Udaipur districts in Rajasthan on Wednesday, ahead of the nationwide vaccination drive beginning on January 16.
The consignment of 20,000 doses of vaccine reached Jaipur airport by Air Asia flight from Hyderabad at 11 am, officials said.
Later in the evening, the second batch of around 5,00,000 doses of Covishield vaccine also reached Jaipur. From the airport, the vaccine was taken to the State Drug Centre under tight security.
People welcomed arrival of the vaccines in Jaipur in a religious way. Amid chanting of mantras, the vaccine was kept in cold store at the centre in Janata Colony. Besides, one floor of the Sawai Man Singh hospital has also been made the vaccination centre, where different session sites have been created. Every vaccination site will have three rooms. An intensive care unit (ICU) has been also prepared to tackle any emergency situation, the officials said.
In Udaipur, the consignment of 1,00,500 units of Covishield reached on Wednesday. District collector Chetan Deora, along with ADM administration OP Bunkar, CMHO Udaipur Dr
Dinesh Kharadi, additional SP Gopal Swaroop Mewara, received the vaccine at Udaipur airport. Various other officials were also present on the occasion. Later, the consignment was transported to a storage centre located at Badi village in Udaipur district under tight security. “Udaipur is completely ready for storage and distribution of the vaccine and the district has a capacity to store 5,00,000 units of the vaccine at a time.,” said Kharadi.
A mobile van has been deployed to deliver the vaccine at the cold chain point in the city. It can carry 1,80,000 doses at a time and a temperature of 8 to 2 degrees Celsius can also maintained inside the van during the transportation.
Health care workers will get Covishield vaccination at 282 session sites in the first phase. The medical department has completed all preparations for the vaccination, officials said.
There are three state-level, seven divisional-level and 34 district-level vaccine stores. Also, 2,444 cold chain points are functional at community and primary health centres.
A vaccine van is also being made available in each district; 5,626 vaccination teams have been trained for the first phase of vaccination. In the first phase, 3,689 medical institutions and 2,969 private sector medical centres have been identified for the vaccination.
