Modi flays Rahul over ‘north-south’ remark
PUDUCHERRY: Attacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent “north-south” remarks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday alleged the party’s policy was to “divide, lie and rule.” Not mincing words, he said the Congress culture of feudal politics, dynasty politics, patronage politics was ending and people all over the country were rejecting the party.
He also expressed shock over Gandhi’s contention that there was no “dedicated” fisheries ministry. “The truth is, it is the current NDA government that had made a ministry for fisheries in 2019,” Modi said addressing a public meeting in poll-bound Puducherry, as he said people of the Union Territory were celebrating the “freedom from misgovernance of Congress”.
Modi hit out at former Puducherry chief minister V Narayanasamy, implying he headed a “high command” government that served the interests of a few Congress leaders in Delhi.
In Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, Modi dedicated to the nation the 2x500 mw Neyveli new thermal power plant, and laid the foundation stone for important initiatives in the state. Reciting from the Tamil classic Tirukkural, the second time on Thursday after doing the same in Puducherry earlier, he hailed farmers, even as he laid the foundation stone for extension and modernisation of the Lower Bhavani Project.→p4
GUWAHATI: Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday slammed the Congress, its ally All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and newly formed regional parties and asserted that only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) can ensure peace and development in an Assam that’s free of illegal migrants.
“There was a time when Assam was known for agitations and violence. The biggest contribution of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre is to establish peace in Assam, ensure development, give corruption-free administration, rid the state of agitations and put the brakes on the entry of illegal immigrants,” Shah said at a rally in Batadrava Than, the birthplace of 15th-16th century
Vaishnavite saint-scholar and social reformer Srimanta Sankardev.
Launching an ₹188 crore project for the development of Batadrava Than, Shah slammed the Congress for not doing anything for the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardev despite having been in power in the state for several terms.
“Congress is seen only when election comes. At other times they indulge in merriment in Delhi,” said Shah.
