7 decades after Independence, tribals’ village gets electricity
KOTA: The wait for electricity for the people of Rooppura, a village in the tribal belt of Bundi district, for last seven decades of Independence got over on Thursday with the electrification of the village under the Union government’s Saubhagya scheme.
An 11-kv low tension line was stretched in the village, situated 37 km from the district headquarter, inhabited mostly by the Bheel community people.
Superintendent engineer of the Jaipur Vidhyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (JVVNL), GS Bairwa said the village is surrounded by forest land so it remained deprived of proper road, power supply and drinksaid. ing water since Independence, but now electrification of the village has been done.
“Villagers had applied for electrification for last four years, but now approval has been received from the government for providing electricity connection to the village,” he “We have established an electricity transformer and now villagers will be able to take connections from it,” he said.
“There are already 45 electricity connection applications from the villagers whom electricity connections will be provided soon,” he said.
He said the villagers were so far lighting up their houses using solar power, but it was not sufficient to run heavy electronic devices except light bulb, mobile charger or fan, but now the villagers can use air cooler or any other electricity device.
Basoli gram panchayat sarpanch Mahaveer Rathore said that Rooppura falls under Basoli gram panchayat and it is like dream come true for the villagers who were waiting for the electricity for last seven decades. Nandkishore Bheel, a villager, said that most of the elderly people of the village have spent their lives without electricity in their households, but now their young family members will be able to get benefit of power supply in houses.
