JAIPUR: The assembly was adjourned briefly on Thursday after the opposition BJP legislators trooped into the well and shouted anti-government slogans.

The uproar started during zero hour when BJP legislator and state party chief Satish Poonia was speaking on the budget. Poonia in his address raised issues related to farmers’ suicide, farm loan waiver and deaths of infants in the past at a hospital in Kota. This led to an exchange of heated arguments between the ruling and opposition legislators.

Chairperson Rajendra Pareek sought cooperation from the legislators to let the House function and asked them to maintain dignity of the House but to no avail. Amid the din, Opposition legislators trooped into the well shouting slogans against the government.

Pareek urged the BJP legislators to return to their seats but they did not pay any heed, following which the House was adjourned for 30 minutes.

As the House resumed, Leader of Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria said, “We (opposition) all respect the chair. The public has elected us and we are here to raise their voices. It is unfortunate that when a state party chief is speaking, he is hindered by ministers.”

He added, “It is possible that there could be disagreements to what is being stated by a member but after chair’s ruling, such thing should not happen. The members of the ruling party should not be arrogant and such behaviour is unjustified.”

Speaker CP Joshi said that it is the responsibility of all members to ensure that the assembly runs smoothly. “I urge all not to intervene in-between when a member is speaking. If something wrong has been stated, then it is the right of the speaker to expunge (the remarks).”

Parliamentary affairs minister Shanti Dhariwal said, “The opposition is equally responsible in running the House smoothly as is the ruling party. But the members of ruling party should also be given a chance to speak, if the statements made by the opposition aren’t factually right.”

‘No recognition to electropathy courses’

Health minister Dr Raghu Sharma informed the House that no institution is affiliated with the state government nor has any recognition been given for conducting electropathy courses.

He said the electropathy system has not been approved either by the government of India or any state. “In this case, the Central government formed a committee in 2016. There have been 5 meetings of this committee on the subject but nothing has been concluded so far.”

Replying to a question, Sharma said the Rajasthan Electropathy System of Medicine Act, 2018 was passed by the Assembly on April 11, 2018. After this a committee has been
