Accused set me on fire, woman says in video

JAIPUR: In the case of alleged murder of a 30-year-old rape survivor in Hanumangar­h district, police have got a video recorded by a local when she was taken to hospital after she was set afire allegedly by the rape accused, who is now out on bail.

“We have recovered the video and put that as evidence,” said Praful Kumar, inspector general of police (IGP), Bikaner range.

In the video of one minute and 27 seconds, the local who shot it asked the victim who set her ablaze. She purportedl­y replied, “He (prime accused) first called me out and then threatened me to withdraw the case. When I refused, he slapped me. Then again when I refused, he poured inflammato­ry material on me and set me on fire.”

The woman, who was staying at her grandmothe­r’s house, was allegedly attacked by accused Pradeep Bishnoi on Thursday. She had sustained 90% burns and died on Friday, police said.

Bishnoi had allegedly raped the woman in 2018 and was out on bail in the case.

Police on Saturday detained two men in the murder case of the 30-year-old rape victim.

Meanwhile, police suspect that there are a few more suspects in this case and their role is being probed. In one of the CCTVS, one more suspect is seen close to the victim’s house.

“We are establishi­ng the link between the suspects and the victim. In one of the footages, a picture of one more suspect has been obtained and the role of two more people have surfaced. We are connecting the dots,” said the Bikaner range IGP.

BHARATPUR: A man registered a complaint on Sunday alleging that two men abducted her 12-year-old daughter and raped her in Dholpur, police said.

Dholpur city circle officer Pravendra Singh said a case was registered against the two men under the Protection of Child from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. “The girl has been taken for medical examinatio­n and police have started investigat­ion.”

A CCTV footage obtained from the crime scene shows the accused fleeing the spot, presumably after setting the woman on fire, he said.

“Pradeep Bishnoi is also being interrogat­ed. At the same time, his mobile call details, location as well as other points are being investigat­ed. Informatio­n is also being collected regarding the suspect seen in the CCTV footage,” said another police official familiar with the investigat­ion.

He said another fact that has come out in the probe is that the victim and the prime suspect Bishnoi knew each other for the last four years. “The victim used to operate a beauty parlour. Both used to exchange money between them. Both used to meet each other more frequently. In 2018, the victim had filed a case against Bishnoi accusing him of raping her. Nearly three months after his evening when she was returning home after purchasing vegetables from market.

“They forced her to consume drug and raped her,” said the girl’s father, a labourer.

After being informed by locals that the girl was lying unconsciou­s, family members reached the spot and took her to hospital, police said.

The girl’s father approached the women’s police station to file the complaint.

Bishnoi’s father, who was rounded up by the police, met Hanumangar­h SP Preeti Jain on Saturday. He told the SP that his son is innocent. “Police should take fair action. It should not happen that an innocent gets punished,” he said.

The SP said, “There will be an impartial inquiry into the matter.”

Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje condemned the incident. “The attack on a rape victim in Hanumangar­h by the accused, who was out on bail, is extremely condemnabl­e. For how long our will daughters and sisters suffer under the Congress misrule?” she tweeted.

State transport minister Pratap Singh Khachariya­was said stern punishment would be given to the culprit. “The culprits of such incidents should get death penalty,” he said.
