CONSTABLE KILLED WHILE ENFORCING COVID CURBS IN KARAULI DISTRICT

BHARATPUR: A 40-year-old police constable enforcing Covid restrictio­ns was killed in Karauli district when a man attacked him with stones on Sunday night, officials said.

The incident took place near Madrayal police station where the constable, Goklesh Sharma, was posted.

When the police station was informed that a man has opened his shop in a vegetable mandi in violation of Covid restrictio­ns, Sharma along with another constable reached there, police said.

The shopkeeper, Sampat Singh, from Jakhoda village then started attacking Sharma with stones. The police constable tried to rescue him but failed. Sharma died on the spot, police said.

After committing the crime, the accused fled from the spot. Police reached the spot and took the body to a mortuary. After the post-mortem examinatio­n, police handed over the body to the family. Sharma belonged to Bharatpur.

Police registered a case against Sampat Singh and superinten­dent of police Mridul Kachawa set up five police teams to search for absconding accused.

Inspector General of police, Bharatpur range, Prasanna Kumar Khamesra said, “After the incident, I reached there and directed police officials to set up police teams to search for the accused. Police are conducting raids at some places for arresting him.”
