India women’s recurve team wins World Cup gold

GUATEMALA CITY: Topseeded India women’s recurve team rode its luck to pip Mexico 5-4 in an intriguing final to grab gold in the Archery World Cup Stage 1 on Sunday. Locked 4-4 in the shoot-off, India’s Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari shot 27. Mexico needed 9 to win but shot 7. This was India’s first World Cup team gold after seven years. The women’s team is yet to qualify for the Olympics and they will have one shot at a Tokyo berth on the sidelines of the World Cup Stage 3 in Paris in June.
