India adds over 320k cases in 24 hrs, toll nears 200k-mark

Data shows slight drop in coronaviru­s recovery rate, case fatality rate further reduces to 1.12%

NEW DELHI: With 323,144 people testing positive for the coronaviru­s in a day, India’s infection tally has climbed to 17,636,307, while the national recovery rate further dropped to 82.54 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The death toll mounted to 197,894 with 2,771 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

There has been a slight dip in the daily cases as compared to the number of new infections reported in the past few days.

The active case count has increased to 2,882,204 comprising 16.34 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has further dropped to 82.54 per cent, from 82.62 per cent reported on Monday.

The national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.33 per cent on February 17.

The number of people who have recuperate­d from the disease surged to 14,556,209 while the case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.12 per cent, the data stated.

Ten states, including Maharashtr­a, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, reported 69.1 per cent of the new Covid-19 cases registered in a day, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisga­rh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Rajasthan are also among the 10 states that reported 69.1 per cent of the new cases.

“Cumulative­ly, more than 28 crore tests have conducted so far, while the cumulative positivity rate is 6.28 per cent,” the ministry said.

Maharashtr­a has reported the highest daily new cases at 48,700. It is followed by Uttar Pradesh with 33,551 new cases
