Covid care centre set up at Kota university

A Covid care centre has been set up at the University of Kota to ease the pressure on the hospital dedicated for the patients, officials said.
The district administration of Kota has acquired two newly constructed blocks of the university -- computer science block (Aryabhatta bhawan) and examination block (Vachaspati Bhawan) – to set up the care centre, vice chancellor Neelima Singh said.
“The University of Kota has voluntarily handed over its newly constructed blocks to the district administration as a small contribution to the fight against Covid-19,” Singh said.
District collector Ujjawal Singh Rathore said, “The University of Kota is the first government-run university of Rajasthan, where a model Covid care centre has been developed amid increasing patients’ load at the dedicated Covid hospital in Kota.”
The health department has started the 400-bed model Covid care centre at the university with the help of Allen Career Institute, Rathore said.

“The Allen coaching institute makes arrangements for transportation of patients and looks after their food, apart from cleanliness at the centre. The institute also organises meditation sessions and entertainment programmes to de-stress the patients,” the collector said. “The medical college, Kota, and the health department have provided oxygen beds to the Covid centre.”
Dr Vijay Sardana, principal of the Government Medical College, Kota, said patients will be referred to the care centre at the university from the dedicated government Covid hospital. “The dedicated Covid hospital has provided oxygen cylinders and concentrators as well as medical staff to the care centre,” he said.
“Since there are no ICU beds at the Covid care centre, those patients will be admitted there who are not critical and whose oxygen levels have dropped marginally,” Sardana said.
Allen Career Institute director Naveen Maheshwari said, “Since Covid-19 outbreak is a major humanitarian crisis, the institute has extended support to the district administration in the management and monitoring of the care centre at the university. The institute has also provided LED TVS and music systems, and arranged motivational speakers for distressing the Covid patients.”
