MHA sends fact-finding team to WB

The ministry of home affairs (MHA) on Thursday deputed a four-member factfinding team, led by an additional secretary rank officer, to assess the post-poll violence in West Bengal.
The ministry subsequently sought a detailed report from governor Jagdeep Dhankar on the current law and order situation, people familiar with the development said.
On Monday, the MHA had sought a detailed report on the violence from the West Bengal government and asked it to take necessary steps to ensure such incidents stopped “without any loss of time”. The ministry also issued a reminder to the government on Wednesday.
The four-member team left for the state on Thursday morning. It will prepare a detailed report on the violence, possible suspects and reasons for Trinamool Congress government not being able to stop it, which will be submitted to the MHA for action, people cited above said.
At least 14 people have been killed in various political attacks and clashes that broke out in the state after the assembly results were declared on May 2.

According to BJP, the ruling TMC was responsible for the violence that was being carried out against opposition political workers in the state. The party has also accused TMC workers of setting a BJP office on fire.
TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, meanwhile, has said the the BJP was ‘torturing people’ despite its defeat. “We know that the BJP and Central forces have tortured people. But even then, I will urge everyone to maintain peace and not resort to violence,” she said.
The CM announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh each for their families. “...We will pay a compensation of ₹2 lakh to their family members. Our government will also provide jobs of home guard to the next of kin of Sitalkuchi victims,” she said.
Meanwhile, Union minister V Muraleedharan’s car was attacked in West Bengal’s Panchkhudi on Thursday. “TMC goons attacked my convoy in West Midnapore, broken windows, attacked personal staff. Cutting short my trip,” tweeted Muraleedharan.
