Ali Asgar entertains doctors at a hospital, is glad to be of service

- Kavita Awaasthi

ike many of his peers, Ali Asgar has been doing his bit and helping out in the pandemic. But the comedian says he doesn’t like talking about the monetary aspect of it.

“I have been doing what I can over the past year and I have been taught not to mention when you help someone. Iss haath se do toh doosre haath ko bhi pata na chale,” he explains. When he got the opportunity to entertain health workers at a hospital, he was too glad to be a part of the drive. “At Sion hospital (in Mumbai), I was approached to host

Lyoung interns, doctors, nurses and other health workers. I was happy to perform at a programme for the new entrants. Other doctors sang songs, the dean gave a motivational speech about changing times and pressures on the medical fraternity. I felt like it was my contribution during this pandemic. I did something for my country as everything else is for oneself,” the actor says.

Asgar further shares, “Doctors don’t have any stress relieving outlet as they are working constantly, helping people, staying away from their families and also, feeling overwhelmed due to the situation.” He’s been praying during the month of Ramzan and is looking forward to Eid. Talking about it, he says, “This is the second Eid in a row during a lockdown. It seems like life has come to a standstill. Last year, we were hopeful and didn’t know about the second or third wave. But now it’s getting scary and there is no end in sight. Coronavirus is here to stay and unfortunately, our near and dear ones are dying. Ab toh yeh halat hai ke aaj hum bach gaye, aaj ka din nikal gaya. Every day I feel there are new things that we learn about the virus,” he adds.

The actor says his children are usually busy with studies, but he tries to pep up the atmosphere at home and keep them distracted. The comedian was supposed to shoot for two projects last month, but feels now is not the right time to step out.
