Urvashi rues lack of provision for unemployed actors
With the second wave of the pandemic taking a toll on lives and the economy, Urvashi Dholakia feels unemployed actors are not getting any help. The Kasautii Zindagi Kay actor points out that provisions and fundraisers have been organised for less privileged, but financially strapped actors, who have been sitting at home with no source of income for over a year, are bearing the brunt of acute indifference.
Expressing her disappointment, she says, “Even under normal circumstances, there aren’t many provisions for actors. There is a certain kind of aid which can be provided, but who is going to do it? If we approach the producers, they will say they are facing financial problems and if we approach the channels, they will turn a deaf ear.” Dholakia confides that she isn’t worried about getting offers and resuming work once the Covid-19 numbers subside but urges other actors to be “resilient” during these times.
“Everyone is facing difficulties but we all will have to go with the flow. You can’t fight destiny. I have never feared anything and I still don’t. Going back to normal is a farfetched thought for anyone. Whatever has to happen, will. I take one day at a time and that has made me sail through all these years. I’m sure it is going to work for me in the future as well,” she shares.
The television star says that she is baffled by the indifference of people who still fail to display Covidappropriate behaviour. “I actually pity them because these are the same people who cry foul when they are not attended to on time,” she signs off.
