OUT TO CELEBRATE B’DAY, CONSTABLE AMONG 3 KILLED IN HIT-AND-RUN

A police constable was among three persons killed after their car was hit by a speeding vehicle on Mangiyawas-badarwas road in Jaipur early on Friday, police said.

The accident took place when the constable, Jagdish Kumar Choudhary (30), posted at Sodala police station, was going with his friends to celebrate his birthday.

His friends were identified as Nikhil Kumar Sharma (25), a resident of Shyam Nagar in Jaipur and a student of law, and Gaytri (26), a student living in Vatika Nagar area of the city.

According to traffic accident police station (south), the three had reached Badarwas to take a turn towards Mangiyawas road when at 2am, an unidentifi­ed vehicle, suspected to a multiaxle truck or a tanker, hit their car.

The driver fled from the scene with the vehicle, leaving the trio in a mangled car. A highway patrol unit that arrived at the spot removed bodies from the car which had turned into a heap, police said.

According to SHO, accident police station (South), Shiv Dayal, all three were taken to the hospital where they were found to be brought dead.

Jagdish was living in Muhana Mandi area of the city. According to initial police investigat­ion, Nikhil went to Jagdish’s house to wish him birthday and they both headed to pick Gaytri from her house. After cutting the cake, all three of them had left for Mangiyawas when the accident took place.

A police official said that a case was registered against the unidentifi­ed driver. He added that they were examining the CCTV footage of the spot to locate the vehicle that hit the car.

Family members of the deceased constable said that Jagdish had told them over the phone that he was going out with Nikhil and Gaytri to celebrate his birthday. But in the morning, the police called up family members to inform them of the incident.
