- Aabshar H Quazi

The nursing employee of a private hospital caught recently with his brother for black marketing of remdesivir injections in Kota city has revealed that instead of the Remdesivir injections he gave waterfilled injections to the Covid-19 patients at the hospital and took away the Remdesivir injections for black marketing, police said.

The two patients to whom he had given the water-filled injections have recovered and have been discharged from the hospital.

The Kota City Police had arrested the nursing employee, Manoj Raigar (24), and his brother Rakesh Raigar (23) near New Medical College Hospital in the city on Saturday while black marketing Remdesivir injections.

Both the accused are students of a nursing college in neighbouring Bundi district. Manoj was working as a nursing employee in a private hospital of Kota since April this year, while whereas Rakesh worked at a private diagnostic laboratory in the city.

An assistant sub-inspector of the Mahaveer Nagar police station and investigation officer in the case, Vishnu Prasad said that during interrogation Manoj told the police that he had given water-filled injections to one Covid-19 patient at the hospital on May 8 and another Covid-19 patient to May 11. While Manoj is in police custody, his brother Rakesh has been sent to judicial custody, the police said.

Prasad said the batch number of Remdesivir injections seized from the duo matched with the injections stocks available at the hospital. “The cost of one Remdesivir injection is ₹3,490 in the market, but the accused duo was selling the injections at ₹10,000 per injection,” he said.
