Stay healthy, even with epilepsy

-

Living with epilepsy can be really challenging. Experiencing seizures can bring a lot of uncertainty to your life. Anyone can develop epilepsy as it affects both males and females of all races and ages.

UNDERSTANDING EPILEPSY BASICS

A physician diagnoses epilepsy and the doctor may ask you questions about the seizure, which includes points such as what happened before, during, and after it. The doctor will ask you to get specific diagnostic tests done to confirm epilepsy. Seizure and epilepsy are two conditions that are very closely related. In a seizure, there is a brief disruption in brain that interferes with the brain function. Any person can experitly ence a seizure, but it need not be epilepsy. When there are many seizures, then the diagnosis is done as epilepsy.

People also have misconceptions that during epilepsy one swallows their tongue. Physically it is not possible to swallow your tongue. In fact, it is much more harmful to put something in someone’s mouth to prevent a seizure, as it could lead to injuries in that part. Instead, you need to genroll the person on one side and once their seizure is over, ensure their airway is clear.

You don’t have to hide the symptoms of epilepsy. The attitude towards this condition is more disabling than the condition itself. Don’t get anxious, seek counselling and your doctor’s advice.
